PURPOSE: A veltol manufacturing process is relatively superior in yield than that of conventional processes and enables high purity above 99%. CONSTITUTION: The manufacturing process of veltol comprises two steps of: oxidation by using oxidizing agent; and hydrolysis and followed by neutralization, extraction, removal of extracting solvent, removal of tar residue, crystallization, filtration, washing, and drying. The yield of high purity veltol(I, ethyl maltol) obtained from alpha-ethylfurfuryl alcohol is 63-66%.
