PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for compensating convergence are provided to simplify the convergence compensating procedure for a projection television. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises a memory(408), a controller(407), a convergence controller(406) and a cathode ray tube(404). The memory(408) stores convergence operation formulas of each display mode. The controller(407) determines a set display mode, reads an operation formula of corresponding mode to operate convergence control values. The convergence controller(406) generates an applying voltage to R, G, B convergence yokes of the cathode ray tube(404) corresponding to the convergence control values.
