PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To embody a video display device of a small size having high portability. SOLUTION: Transmission type LCD panel 1L, 1R which display videos respectively at the user's left and right eyes, backlight units 2L, 2R for respectively illuminating these LCD panel 1L, 1R are mounted on the surface of a holding member 7 and free curved surface prisms 3L, 3R for macro-projecting the videos of the LCD panel 1L, 1R to the left and right eyes are mounted at the rear surface. An electric circuit board 4 for executing system control is fixed to the flanks of the free curved surface prisms 3L, 3R, etc. The LCD panel 1L, 1R and the electric circuit board 4 are respectively connected in a spaced state by flexible flat cables 14L, 14R. These members are compactly housed within an external member consisting of a base cover 5 and a cap cover 6.
