PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder and a recording method capable of recording long-video and simultaneously recording important video information in a sharp state in a record medium with restricted storage capacity. SOLUTION: An HDD unit 18 is provided with a recording part 32 to record the video information, a reproducing part 38 to reproduce the recorded video information and in addition, a reprocessing part 40 to read the video information recorded in the HDD unit 18 and to record it again after it is compressed. The video information related to no event is compressed in a reproduction ratio according to the time elapsed after video recording by a compressing part 41 of the reprocessing part 40, the video information related to an event is compressed as it is or within a range in which no definition is lowered and is recorded again in the HDD unit 18 by a saving part 42. Therefore, the video information related to the event is recorded in sharp state, on the other hand, other pieces of video information are compressed by allowing degradation and the long-term video information is recorded in the HDD unit 18.
