PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide with a simple method and a device constitution an ignition condition forecast method for solid fuel, capable of accurately forecasting ignition condition, even if a fuel kind, a fuel particle size, heating conditions or the like are changed. SOLUTION: In this forecast method, information on a solid fuel, such as industrial analysis values, elemental analysis values, thermal decomposition speed parameters or the like, are inputted, and the solid fuel is divided into plural parts corresponding to the particle size, and a volatile component quantity emitted into a gas phase by a thermal decomposition reaction is calculated, corresponding to respective particle sizes under a set particle temperature and a set reaction time, and the total of the volatile component quantities emitted from the particles of each particle size is calculated, and the occurrence of ignition is determined, when a gas phase air ratio (oxygen quantity in the gas phase divided by the theoretical oxygen quantity necessary for oxidation of a fuel existing in the gas phase) calculated from the ratio between the volatile component quantity and a surrounding air quantity, becomes below a prescribed value. As a result, the ignition temperature or flammability limit concentration can be forecasted easily under various heating conditions which correspond to various combustion systems.
