PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information reader simply and inexpensively manufactured and enhancing a degree of freedom in design. SOLUTION: The optical information reader irradiating a magneto-optical recording medium 25 with a read light beam, light-receiving its reflection beam by a photodetecting means and reproducing information recorded on the magneto-optical recording medium is provided with a diffraction means 27 separating the reflection beam to plural beams to converge them and a polarized light separating element 28 having a plane of polarization 28a with a P polarization reflectance and an S polarization reflectance different from each other and polarizing and separating the beams from the diffraction means 27 in the optical path of the reflection beam made incident on the photodetecting means, and the photodetecting means is provided with photodetecting parts 31, 32 respectively and independently light-receiving a P polarization component and an S polarization component polarized and separated by the polarized light separating element 28. |
