PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform battery check not only while power is supplied to a camera functioning part but also while a battery is being changed and also to effectively use battery capacity. SOLUTION: A CPU 24 controls switches SW1 and SW2 but it does not perform power supply to camera functioning parts such as an image pickup circuit 14, a reproducing circuit 16 and a liquid crystal monitor 18 except a stroboscopic device 20 from a battery 20 and power supply to the device 20 at the same time. Also, this camera is provided with a voltage monitoring circuit 30 which monitors battery voltage while power is fed to the camera functioning parts and a voltage monitoring circuit 32 which monitors the battery voltage while stroboscopic charging is performed, the circuit 30 monitors whether or not the battery voltage falls below the monitor voltage E1 and the circuit 32 monitors whether or not the battery voltage falls below the monitor voltage E2.
