PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically select a horizontally written character or a vertically written character and to transform it. SOLUTION: This device automatically transforms a character LT constituting a character string LS between a horizontally written character and vertically written character. The inclined angle αof the character LT and the inclined angle β of the character string LS are detected when the inclined angle of a straight line extending in a lateral direction from the left to the right is made into O degree #21. A difference (α-β) between the inclined angles αand β is obtained #22. When the difference (α-β) is not less than a prescribed angle A and not more than a prescribed angle B, the pertinent character LT in the character string LS is judged as the horizontally written character, and judged as the vertically written character in other cases. The horizontally written character or the vertically written character is allocated to the pertinent character in accordance with the judgment #23 and #24. |
