PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive one-transistor inverter type discharge lighting device with high power factor. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a smoothing capacitor 10; a vibrating inductor 32; a switching element 38 for intermittently applying the voltage of the smoothing capacitor 10 to the vibrating inductor 32; a first vibrating capacitor 34 and second vibrating capacitor 35 for forming one vibrating closed circuit together with the vibrating inductor 32; a flywheel diode 39 connected in reverse parallel to the switching element 38; and an inverter load 90 connected in parallel to the vibrating inductor 32. The inverter load 90 consists of a discharge lamp lighting circuit. This device is further provided with a rectifying power source 23 for rectifying the voltage of an AC power source 21, and a polar auxiliary diode 29 for applying the voltage of the voltage of the rectifying power source 23 to the smoothing capacitor 10. The connecting points of the first vibrating capacitor 34 and second vibrating capacitor 35 are connected to the connecting pointes of the rectifying power source 23 and the auxiliary diode 29. The feed of the rectifying power source 23 is promoted by the interaction of the first vibrating capacitor 34 and second vibrating capacitor 35 belonging to a single vibrating closed circuit to increase the power factor.
