PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device stably operable even in either state. SOLUTION: In a direct current of a DC power source E, a drive circuit 12 alternately turns on and off electric field effect transistors Q1, Q2 according to a control circuit 15, and an inverter circuit 11 outputs a high frequency to start/light fluorescent lamps FL1, FL2. Until the fluorescent lamps FL1, FL2 are started, lamp voltage of the fluorescent lamps FL1, FL2 is detected by a voltage detecting circuit 16 to be controlled so that output voltage of the inverter circuit 11 becomes constant, and a phase is made different from lighting time of the fluorescent lamps FL1, FL2. When the fluorescent lamps FL1, FL2 are lighted, an electric current value flowing to the electric field effect transistor Q2 is detected by an electric current detecting resistance R1 to be controlled so that the electric current value becomes constant, and the phase is adjusted so as to become different from when the fluorescent lamps FL1, FL2 are activated. |
