PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retrieval technology which realizes retrieval with few errors and can easily search for a desired electronic document at the time of retrieving massive electronic documents. SOLUTION: A word is divided from an electronic document by a word extraction part 10. A document management part 20 checks the array of the several words showing an event, namely, a pattern. Thus, the basic elements of the event are specified. Then, a case frame mapping part 22 compares the pattern defining relation information among the basic elements of the event with the electronic document. The basic elements which are thus specified and relation information are accumulated in a whole sentence data base 30 with the original electronic document. Field names are given to the specified basic elements so that they can be referred to by a retrieval part 40 and they are stored.
