PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery which does not need to have a non-oxidative atmosphere around it and easy in maintenance, by providing a battery cell and an electrolyte tank for storing an electrolyte therein that is circulatingly supplied to the battery cell, and putting in an air shut-off member with a specific gravity which is lighter than the electrolyte and heavier than air on the upside of the electrolyte. SOLUTION: It is preferable to form an air shut-off member to be put into a solid, a combination of a solid and a gas, a combination of a solid and a liquid, or a combination of a solid, a liquid, and a gas. It is preferable to form an air shut-off member of an inert gas, and the upside of a tank can be left open by putting therein an inert gas heavier than air. An electrolyte 2 is housed in the tank 1 and a plastic plate 3 (an air shut-off member) is put in on the upside thereof. Because the plastic plate 3 floats on the electrolyte 2, the contact area of the electrolyte 2 with air can be sharply decreased, the existence of the plastic plate 3 can be verified visually, and therefore a non-oxidative atmosphere can be confirmed.
