PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor device of a structure, wherein at the time of a short-circuit between loads, a semiconductor element is made to turn off reliably and rapidly, and the element is protected from the short circuit between the loads. SOLUTION: In a semiconductor device having a first switch means Q1 for turning on or off a current, which is made to flow through a load, a current detecting means R4 for detecting the current which is made to flow through the load, a second switch means Q2 for turning on or off the connection of the means R4 with the load and a control means 22 for controlling this means Q2 and the means Q1, the control means turns on the means Q1 at the start time of a drive of the load, and thereafter turns on the means Q2 and the above means R4 turns off the Q1, only when detecting an overcurrent.
