PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the rotary angle or the like of a rotary member by detecting the pole change or magnetic force change of a multipolar magnet with a detector accompanying rotating. SOLUTION: When a rotor 7 is rotated together with a steering shaft by a rotating operation of a steering wheel, a pulse is detected in the case of the pole change of the multipolar magnet 21 of the rotor 7. In this case, when a magnetic force of the magnet 21 of the rotor 7 is the same and also even when the force of the magnet 21 of the rotor 7 is continuously changed in rotating direction, the pulse or the force corresponding to the pole changing according to a rotary angle is detected, and hence the rotational angle (amount) or rotational speed of the wheel can be detected. The rotational direction of the wheel can be detected according to a changing direction of the force, i.e., an increasing or decreasing direction of the force, and an attitude control or the like of an automobile during traveling can be conducted.
