PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To light a backlight and display at the time of alarm detection in a liquid crystal display having the backlight and a monitoring control device using the same device. SOLUTION: This display device is equipped with an external input detection part 5 which transmits an instruction for lighting a backlight 1 when an input signal is detected by input operation by a key board, a mouse, a touch panel or the like, clears a backlight off timer 3 and has it start operation, a timeout monitoring part 4 which transmits a turning off instruction of the backlight 1 by timeout of the backlight off timer 3, a timer control part 8 which performs control of clear/activation/stop of the backlight off timer 3, an alarm detection part 7 which transmits the lighting instruction of the backlight 1 by alarm detection, a backlight control part 2 which controls turning on/off of the backlight 1 according to turning on/turning off instructions, and an external device interface part 9 which performs transmission/reception of information with an external device.
