PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Japanese input prediction system which can effectively use a limited prediction candidate selection area and can reduce manipulated variable on the candidate selection of a user by adopting a candidate display method and a selection method, which correspond to the character string length of a prediction candidate. SOLUTION: A character input system is provided with a retrieval means 4 retrieving a character string which matches an inputted read character string or whose front part matches from an input prediction dictionary 5 as a prediction character string, a display means 3 displaying the retrieved prediction character string, and selection means 2 and 6 selecting the range of the partial character string used for the prediction character string. |
