摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To activate a hydrogen storage alloy used in an hydrogen storage alloy electrode for an alkaline storage battery, and enhance high rate discharge characteristics of an electrode using this alloy. SOLUTION: A hydrogen storage alloy 1 has CaCu5 type crystal structure, is represented by the composition formula MmNixCoyMnzM1-z [where M is at least one element from among Al, Cu, x: 3.0<=x<=5.2, y: 0<=y<=1.2, z: 0.1<=z<=0.9, 4.4<=x+y+z<=5.4], constituted with a surface region 2 containing fluorides of Co, Ni, Al, Cu and a bulk region 3 covered with the surface region 2, and the hydrogen storage alloy having the abundance ratio of Ni atoms in the surface region 2 larger than that in the bulk region 3 is used as an electrode for an alkaline storage battery.</p>
