PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent a photographic mistake by generating a warning tone in accordance with a photographic condition when a release button is operated. SOLUTION: When a camera mode is set, a microcomputer 40 first discriminates photographic conditions that have nothing to do with an object, such as the residual quantity of a battery 62, the existence of insertion of a memory card 58 and the free capacity of the memory card 58. When an operator presses down a release button 52 halfway, the microcomputer 40 executes pre- exposure and calculates luminance evaluation value and AF evaluation value from image data obtained from it. And, it discriminates photographic conditions that have something to do with the object, such as whether part of lens 12 is covered with a finger or whether a mode is set correctly from the evaluation values. If even one of the photographic conditions is not satisfied, the microcomputer 40 drives an aperture unit 16 and makes it generate a warning tone. Further, the unit 16 is driven when the button 52 is operated.
