PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave discharge lamp device which is manufactured at low cost and provided with improved light using efficiency. SOLUTION: A microwave generator 1 is provided in one end part of a waveguide 2, while a microwave coupler 3 such as a slot antenna is arranged in the other end part. A hollow resonator 4 coupled to the waveguide 2 via the microwave coupler 3 is arranged, while a lamp 5 is arranged in the hollow resonator 4. In the cavity resonator 4 formed into a cylindrical shape, for example, a first end face 4a facing the microwave coupler 3 and a side face 4b are constructed of metallic mesh members, while a second end face 4d, in which the microwave coupler 3 is arranged, is constructed of a light reflecting flat plate member, and a convex lens 10 is arranged between the lamp 5 and the second end face 4d.
