PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording and reproducing device formed in such a manner that tracking may be executed without executing the intricate driving of a probe in an information reproduction means having a means capable of executing direct tracking to recording dot strings and an information processing method. SOLUTION: This information reproducing device or method has a recording medium, the probe arranged opposite to the recording medium surface and in proximity to the recording medium surface, a scanning means for scanning the surface of the recording medium with the probe, a means for irradiating the recording medium near the probe with light and a means for detecting the proximity field light generated near the recording medium and reproduces the information recorded on the recording medium from a change in the light intensity of the detected proximity field light. The device or method described above has two microopenings at its front end and separates the signal detected by these two microopenings by utilizing a difference of the signals respectively detected by the two microopenings with lapse of time.
