PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the transfer and printing of text data by converting the bit image data of a character string which is received from a communication line into character code data and transmitting the character code data to another device in accordance with a keyword in the character code data. SOLUTION: When a host computer 302 decides that data received from a data processor 301 with a scanner via a communication line 306 is bit image data, it converts the bit image data into text data by using a character recognition function. Next, keyword analysis of the text data is performed, and when the keyword is a character string of the format 'MAIL: xxxxx', the text data is transmitted to another device which is connected to a network and is indicated by the xxxxx. When the keyword is a character string of the format of 'PRINT: xxxxx', the text data is converted into a format in which the text data can be printed and is transmitted to a printer that is indicated by xxxxx.
