PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a component video signal from a composite video signal by preventing dot disturbance. SOLUTION: A VIF 3 processes a signal received by a tuner 2 and a composite video signal is given to a classification adaptive processing circuit 11. The classification adaptive processing circuit 11 classifies the received composite video signal corresponding to the magnitude of clot disturbance and predicts and generates a component signal consisting of a luminance signal Y and color difference signals R-Y, B-Y by using a prediction coefficient corresponding to the class. A matrix circuit 6 generates primary color RGB signals from the component signal and provides an output of them to a CRT 7, on which the RGB signals are displayed.
