PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Christian year sorting method/device for executing high speed processing without increasing a work area required for sorting. SOLUTION: Christian year data in an input record is compared with a prescribed boundary year which is previously set. When it becomes Christian year data >= the boundary year, all upper four bits of a numerical character code showing the digit of ten years are set to zero in year data of lower two digits in Christian year data, and sorting is executed by using bits subsequent to the upper four bits. Namely, only the character code is worked with respect to the data on the lower two digits of Christian year and it is not necessary to make Christian year into four digits. Thus, Christian year sorting is executed by leaving upper two digits of Christian year as they are and the upper four bits of the character code are processed. Consequently, processing can be executed an higher speed compared with the case of substituting the character code and executing sorting.
