PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen storage alloy electrode for an alkaline storage battery capable of suppressing rising of the inner pressure in charging and increasing the discharging capacity in high rate discharge, and to provide an alkaline storage battery using this electrode. SOLUTION: An electrode is formed by mixing hydrogen storage alloy particles and spinel oxide-containing graphite containing spinel oxide represented by the general formula, AB2O4 (where A represents one element from among Co, Ni, and Fe, and B represents one element from among Co, Ni, and Fe). 0.1-10 pts.wt. spinel oxide-containing graphite is contained with respect to 100 pts.wt. hydrogen storage alloy particles.
