PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing device capable of enlarging the recording speed of a signal while increasing a recording capacity in a situation in which various broadcasting systems coexist. SOLUTION: Width of helical tracks t1 to t6 of a larger recording signal amount (LP mode) are made narrower than those of helical tracks T1 to T4 of a smaller signal amount (SP mode) and tilt angles of the helical tracks t1 to t6 of the larger recording signal amount are made larger than those of the helical tracks T1 to T4 of the smaller signal amount by the rotating drum on which a magnetic head is arranged. Thus, this device can handle a larger signal amount.
