PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably stack paper sheets one by one, and to increase the stacking performance for the paper sheets by providing a pressing means which presses paper sheets at a stack part in the stacking direction and moves back behind the pressing position as paper sheets are carried in the stack part. SOLUTION: The lever tip part 15a of a press lever 15 which is energized to exert pressing force downward from an upper space part of a stack case 12 presses bills A into a compressed state. The lever has an oblique abutting surface 15c, slanting obliquely down gently, at its intermediate part on the under surface side and the front end of a bill A which is carried in abuts obliquely against the oblique abutting surface 15c, so that press lever 15 having received this abutting force is pushed up around a fulcrum pin 19 as the fulcrum of slanting to temporarily move back to an upper movement position where the bill can be carried in without any hindrance against the pressing force of a press spring 20 associatively with the carrying-in force of the bill A. Thus, a stack space is secured and a collision against bills which are already stacked in the stack case 12 is avoided to eliminate jamming.
