An abrasive body comprises an abrasive layer (40) bonded to a substrate (42) along an interface (44) and at least one projection (50) extending from the interface (44) into the substrate (42). The projection (50) has an essentially elliptical or circular form in plan and a profile which includes a substantially flat central portion (56) and connecting surfaces (58) joining the central portion (56) to the interface (44) and which slope towards the interface (44).
