Thermostatic expansion valve for coolant circuit, e.g. for motor vehicle air conditioning system has a valve mechanism (200a,201) in a coolant passage (10,11) with a valve controller controlling (205) the action of the valve mechanism in response to the coolant temperature. The coolant passage has a special pressure when the coolant circuit is in operation. The valve has a special chamber (14) essentially separated from the coolant passage and connected to it via an additional passage (15) for feeding the special pressure into the special chamber so that it has a particularly pressure related to the special pressure. A pressure transfer element (22) coupled to the special chamber and valve mechanism transfers the particularly pressure to the valve mechanism so that the influence of the special pressure on the operation of the valve mechanism is reduced.
