A scavenging material for a carbonyl compound in a gas, characterized in that an agent capable of converting a carbonyl compound to a derivative thereof is held on a cationic ion exchanger, and a scavenging tube for a carbonyl compound in a gas having, filled therein, a scavenging material for a carbonyl compound comprising an agent capable of converting a carbonyl compound to a derivative thereof which is held on a cationic ion exchanger. The scavenging tube can be used for analyzing a carbonyl compound such as formaldehyde with ease and simultaneously at a high sensibility and high precision, and has excellent storage stability.
