The invention relates to a radiation curable compound being a mono or multi valent carboxylic ester of a compound containing a hydroxyalkylamidegroup and a hydroxygroup in which the carboxylic ester is derived from an alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. A coating composition comprising this compound has a high rate of poylmerisation and shows the desired chemical and mechanical properties.
