The manufacturing stages include preparation of a preliminary trim layer, forming of a large number of holes in the preliminary trim layer so that they coincide with an area in which a parting line(21) is to be formed, and then pre-forming of the preliminary trim layer into a predetermined shape which, after the hole-forming stage, leaves a finished trim layer(12). Thermal fusing of a base section(11) to the rear side of the trim layer then takes place and a slot is made in the area coinciding with the holes to form the parting line. An Independent claim is included for a dashboard with a trim layer on the front side of a base section, and a parting line with slots extending from the rear side of the base section to the trim layer.
