The centrifuge rotates a compressible working fluid (4) or gas with powerful turbulence between opposing flows close to the axis or side walls, resulting in heat transfer from the centre to the side walls perpendicular to the flow direction. The compressible fluid is in a fully closed drum (1) that is rotated with its axis perpendicular to the gravitational force, resulting in axial movement of the flow near the side walls or axis. The axial flow can also be generated by a fan in the drum. Heat can be extracted by thermal conductivity or heat exchangers. The drum can be rotated in vacuo to reduce losses and can contain flow-enhancing devices.
