Traffic load management method for telecommunication network

The method includes establishing instantaneous demand for bandwidth at predefined location of network. The total number of bits required (N) is compared with number of available bits (M) for use in that predefined location and applying bit rate adjusting mechanism to each algorithms associated with active channels (23) when required. The instantaneous demand may arise from more than one type of algorithm, each associated with at least one active channel. The bit adjusting mechanism is base on predefined function that describe the number of bits that will be allocated for each active algorithm under varying load of network. The bit adjusting mechanism allows the adjustment of the number of bits for each network channels, obeying the constraint that the total number of bits allocated to all channels shall not exceed the total number of bits available. An Independent claim includes a system of managing traffic load in a communication network.
