The cover(3) of the airbag housing(1) has at least one weakened line forming a break point(4) which is connected to a draw-in device, and which separates the cover into sections which are drawn in behind the airbag while it deploys. There may be two oppositely disposed break points connected to corresponding sections of the draw-in device which pulls them back in opposite directions, or four break points arranged in oppositely disposed pairs. The draw-in device has a wire element connected to each break point and connected to a pyrotechnic or gas cylinder actuating unit.
