The apparatus includes mainbody (8) in which rotary drive unit (9) and a recording and reproducing head (10) are provided. A holder supports the disc, rotatably. The cartridge less disc held by the holder is aligned such that holder makes contact with the recording medium and the recording medium is moved towards innerside of the holder and corresponds to rotary drive unit. A locating unit contacts disc containing cartridge held by the holder and moves the disc to shunting position.
