A process for the production of acetylene-free ethylene from a mixture of C2-hydrocarbons by selective absorption of the acetylene and separation of the ethane by rectification in which the acetylene is selectively absorbed at a pressure of more than 5 atmospheres absolute, preferably within a pressure range of 8-40 atmospheres absolute with a polar aprotic solvent boiling higher than 120 DEG C. |
