Graft polymers are used as dispersants for aqueous ceramic suspensions based on oxides, nitrides and/or carbides. Graft polymers of formula are produced by radically grafting a polyalkylene oxide of formula (I) with an ethylenically unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, and derivatizing with a primary or secondary amine and/or alcohol. R<1> = H, CnH2n+1, C6H4CnH2n+1, CH2C(C2H5)(CH2OH)2, CH2CH(OH)CH2OH, (CHR2)mOH, (CHR2)mCOOH, or COR5; R<2> = H, CH3, C2H5; R<3> = H, CnH2n+1, CmH2nSO3Na, (CH2R<2>)mNHR<2>, (CHR<2>)mOH, (CHR<2>)mCOOH, or COR<5>; R<4> = H, (CHR<2>)mCOOH, COR<5>; R<5> = CmH2m+1, C6H8, (CHR<2>)mCOOH, or C6H4COOH; n = 1-18; m = 1-5; x = 2-200; and y = 0 or 1. |
