<p>The present invention relates to a plant cell transformed with a DNA construct which includes a first DNA molecule encoding a signal peptide for a fungal chitinolytic enzyme and a second DNA molecule encoding a second protein heterologous to the leader sequence. The DNA construct encodes a fusion protein which, when expressed in a plant cell transformed with said DNA construct, is cleaved and the second protein is exported from the plant cell. Transgenic plants containing this DNA construct can also be produced. This DNA construct is useful in a method of exporting proteins from plant cells by transducing plant cells with the DNA construct, expressing the fusion protein in the plant cell, cleaving the signal peptide from the second protein, and exporting the second protein from the plant cell. The present invention also encompasses a DNA construct containing a first DNA molecule encoding a signal peptide for a fungal endochitinase and its use in exporting a second protein encoded by the DNA construct from eukaryotic cells in general is also disclosed.</p> |
