DEODORANT AND ANTIMICROBIAL WATER ABSORBENT, PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF AND ABSORBENT ARTICLES

A deodorant and antimicrobial water absorbent comprising a water absorbing resin (A), a compound (B) having an antimicrobial activity against ammonia-producing bacteria and a drug (C) having the ability to neutralize ammonia or to neutralize and adsorb it, with the components (A) and (B) being mixed with each other and/or bonded to each other; a process for the production thereof; and absorbent articles each having an absorbant layer comprising the water absorbent and a fibrous support holding the absorbent thereon. The water absorbent is excellent not only in deodorant and antimicrobial performances but also in absorption performance essential to an absorbent and handleabilities as powder (such as powder fluidity and resistance to blocking due to moisture absorption). The absorbent articles produced by using the absorbent can absorb liquids such as urine, blood and body fluid and exhibit deodorant and antimicrobial activities. The absorbent is useful for paper diapers for adults and children, pads for urinary incontinence, sanitary napkins, pantie liners, pads for breast milk, puerperal mats, medical underpads and so on.
