The support layer (4) is made by coating liquid or at least partially-flowing supporting material on a solid ground. An Independent claim is included for a protective casing for a thermally-insulated vessel. Preferred features: Following coating, reinforcing material is applied onto or into the substrate, or is embedded. Following hardening it is anchored on or in the substrate. The substrate includes a component which hardens, especially after heating and/or by reaction with ambient moisture. It is a two-component, reaction-hardening substance coated successively or simultaneously on to the solid ground. The covering layer is applied to the reinforcement on the substrate, and bonded to it. The covering layer has a lining (11) bonded solidly with it. The covering layer is a plastic foam. The hardened substrate has a thickness up to 1 mm approximately. The covering layer has a total thickness of some 3-10 mm. On opposite edges (9, 10), of the protective casing (1) a zipper fastener is added. The solid ground has a textured surface.
