PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth retaining unit, and an earth retaining wall construction method in which a bulkhead wall of a natural view can be easily constructed, in which workability at a curved surface is excellent, and in which storage and transport cost is reduced. SOLUTION: In a unit having a roughly L-shaped side cross section composed of a front surface 12 and a bottom surface 14, or a unit having a roughly U-shaped cross section composed of the front surface 12, the bottom surface 14, and a back surface 60, the front surface 12 is a retaining unit 10 formed by providing crossbars 16 comprising timbers vertically in parallel. The bottom surface 14 is composed of a net plate, the crossbar 16 is roughly composed of a log, and a crossing angle between the front surface 12 and the bottom surface 14 is set adjustable to provide a foldable retaining unit. The retaining units 10 are provided laterally in parallel, or stacked on each other to construct a retaining wall.
