PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double head surface grinding device capable of accurately detecting decrease in sharpness of the grinding surfaces of both of grinding wheels and thus preventing decrease in grinding efficiency and accuracy. SOLUTION: A pair of rotating grinding wheels 17, 19 are opposed together with their grinding surfaces 17a, 19a parallel to each other and both sides of a workpiece 30 are ground in parallel by the grinding surfaces 17a, 19a of the rotating grinding wheels 17, 19. The power consumed by rotating motors for rotating the rotating grinding wheels 17, 19 is detected by an ammeter. The power consumed by each rotating motor and detected by the ammeter is compared with a preset reference value, and grinding action is interrupted when the consumed power detected exceeds the reference value.
