PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the small size and the light weight of the whole body of a screw fastening machine, and the reliability of the restoration of a piston. SOLUTION: A piston 17 is provided movable up and down in a tubular cylinder 6 rotated by an air motor 4, at least a pair of rotation transmitting parts 15 extending in the axial direction are provided to the cylinder inner wall, at least a pair of rotation receiving parts 16 are provided at the positions of the rotation transmitting parts 15, and the rotation of the cylinder 6 is made possible to transmit to the piston 17 so as to give both functions of the rotation transmission and the thrust generation to the cylinder 6 and the piston 17 concurrently. A stop valve 19 is operated by the pressure of a return pressure accumulator chamber 28 provided at the outer periphery of the cylinder 6, and an air passage 24 to the air motor 4 is closed to stop the air motor 4.
