PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a columnar building member capable of securing a wide space and holding the strength of a house. SOLUTION: A column 2 with a square cross section is cut at a corner section located on the outside of a room 5, and an inclined face 11 is formed at the corner section located on the outside to obtain a columnar building member 1. A corner section located on the inside of the room 5 is cut into a rectangular shape to form a step section (faces 14, 15). A wall 3 is provided with a stud 31 buried in the wall 3, a heat insulating material 32 arranged between the columnar building member 1 or the column 2 and the stud 31, an interior finish panel 33 arranged to cover the surface of the stud 31 and the heat insulating material 32, and an interior finish panel or wainscot 34.
