PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correspond to assembly of a plural kinds of cars without enlarging a device in a car body assembly method in structure to insert into a main assembly by opening a sub-assembly. SOLUTION: Carriage and insertion of a rear assembly 24 is carried out by cooperative motion of a pair of robots 27, and positioning of the rear assembly 24 is carried out by movement of a lengthwise base 42 of a movable jig 29 and a pair of positioning posts 43. Consequently, it is possible to correspond to different kinds of cars by forming a portable jig 28 to grip the rear assembly 24 and a front assembly for each of the kinds of the cars, to eliminate large scale modification at the time of changing the kinds of the cars, to correspond to production of plural kinds of the cars by the same line and to extensively reduce facility investment without enlarging a device.
