PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use common principal component elements for a mechanism adapted for the horizontal feed of a main feed bar fitted with a main feed dog as well as for a mechanism adapted for the horizontal feed of an auxiliary feed bar fitted with an auxiliary feed dog. SOLUTION: In a differential feeder of a sewing machine, having a main feed bar 11 fitted with a main feed dog 12 at its end portion, an auxiliary feed bar 14 arranged in parallel with the main feed bar 1 and fitted with an auxiliary feed dog 15 at its end portion, a first mechanism for imparting reciprocating horizontal movement to the main feed bar 11, a second mechanism for imparting reciprocating horizontal movement different from that of the main feed bar to the auxiliary feed bar 14, and a third mechanism for imparting common reciprocating vertical movement to the main and auxiliary feed bars, the first mechanism has a rocking shaft 8 rocking in synchronism with a main spindle 1 and a connecting element 9 secured to the rocking shaft 8 and the main feed bar 11 while having an arcuate groove cut therein, and the second mechanism has a pin element 22 slidable within the arcuate groove in the connecting element 9, a holding element 10 pivotally attached to the auxiliary feed bar 14 at one end and holding the pin element 22 at the other, and an adjustment means 20 for rotating and displacing the holding element 10 relatively to the auxiliary feed bar 14.
