PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying a specific crude alcohol by thermally dissolving the alcohol in a solvent and subsequently cooling the solution to recrystallize the alcohol, capable of profitably purifying the alcohol into the highly pure alcohol which is useful as a polymer raw material, etc., and has a melt Hazen color number of a specific value or smaller. SOLUTION: This method for purifying a crude spiroglycol (concretelyβ,β,β',β'-tetramethyl-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro[5,5]undecane-3,9-diethanol) comprises thermally dissolving (A) the crude spiroglycol in (B) a 1-10C alcohol (preferably methanol, isobutanol, 2-ethoxyethanol or ethylene glycol) and subsequently cooling the solution to recrystallize the spiroglycol, thus obtaining the purified spiroglycol having a melt Hazen color number of <=40 after held in the atmosphere at 260 deg.C for 5 hr.
