PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower manufacturing cost of a refrigerant compressor, to lighten its weight, and reduce its machining and assembling man-hours. SOLUTION: This refrigerant compressor comprises a front side block, a front head 5 disposed next to the front side block, and a discharge chamber 10 partitioned with the front side block and the front head 5, while the front side block and the front head 5 are integrally joined together such that a front side end face of the front side block abuts on a rear side end face of the front head 5 through a gasket. In this refrigerant compressor, a groove 40 is formed on the rear side end face of the front head 5. Thereby, when the front side block and the front head 5 are integrally joined together, a surface contact pressure acting on the rear side end face of the front head 5 is partially reduced. Accordingly, when a pressure in the discharge chamber 10 abnormally increases by accident in compression operation, a refrigerant gas within the discharge chamber 10 can escape into the atmosphere through a portion having a small surface contact pressure, i.e., the groove 40. As a result, a pressure within the discharge chamber 10 is kept a prescribed value or less so that damage of the compressor is prevented.
