PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation process of a cellulose nitrate derivative without any complex purification process, wherein little contamination of incidentally produced impurities occurs and a cellulose nitrate derivative with a high stability is obtained. SOLUTION: A preparation process of an acylated cellulose nitrate comprises a reaction step wherein a cellulose nitrate is allowed to react with an acylating agent such as acid halide or the like in a reaction solvent in the presence of a catalyst such as a tertiary amine or the like and a purification process wherein the reaction solution obtained in the reaction process is purified with water and a purification solvent. In the purification process, an organic solvent wherein the solubility of the acylated cellulose nitrate is 5 wt.% or larger and the solubility of water is 10 wt.% or smaller is used as the purification solvent. Such organic solvent is, e.g. an acetic ester of a lower alcohol such as methyl acetate, ethyl acetate or the like. This purification solvent may also be used as the reaction solvent.
