PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease or eliminate overload to a tool exchanging arm when clamping or unclamping a tool, while enabling high-speed action for keeping the tool clamped or unclamped. SOLUTION: In an automatic tool exchanger 50 in which either a tool holder 2 chucked by a tool exchanging arm 45 is unclamped by a spindle and pushed out by a cylinder provided inside the spindle, or the tool holder 2 is clamped against the spindle and exchanged by the tool exchanging arm 45, a cam surface 52 operating at a speed about equal to the speed at which the cylinder provided inside the spindle 4 pushes out the tool holder 2 is formed in a cam 51 for moving the tool exchanging arm 45.
